This week I will have some Oscar talk, in anticipation of the Oscar night on Sunday. I haven’t seen all the nominated movies, but I’ll give my opinion on the main categories. Let’s start with Best Supporting Actress.
- Amy Adams in “Junebug”
- Catherine Keener in “Capote”
- Frances McDormand in “North Country”
- Rachel Weisz in “The Constant Gardener”
- Michelle Williams in “Brokeback Mountain”
Haven’t seen Capote yet, but among the others I think Amy Adams is my favorite. She did a wonderful job as the always happy daughter-in-law, always with a positive attitude no matter what happens. I really believed her performance, and was affected by her Pollyanna attitude.
Rachel Weisz was the most interesting aspect of The Constant Gardener, very intriguing and mysterious in her true intentions.
Michelle Williams gave a great performance in her reactions to Ennis’ “love escursions”. Certainly a different performance from her Dawson Creek’s work.
