Ratatouille (2007): Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant’s new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy’s family’s skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans.
The Incredibles is my favorite movie from Pixar Studios. I thought it was the perfect balance between adult intelligent action and kids’ fun action. However I didn’t like the previous Pixar movies like everybody else, so I skipped last year’s Cars.
However I am glad to say that I watched this latest release, and I was very satisfied with it.
It combined fun, romance, adventure, but most importantly something I dare say original, a rat chef. As strange as that sounds, it totally works in the film. There was enough “reality” in the story, that made it believable for me to enjoy it.
I really liked the camera angles from the rat’s point of view. The scene where Remy goes in the sewer and then up throught the traffic is very inventive and well cut.
I think having Gustou being a figment of Remy’s imagination was a very clever idea. It allowed us to see what Remy was thinking with having him talking to himself.
I cannot cook at all, I just like to eat good food. But I was fascinated by the culinary elements of this movie, especially the scenes where Remy is cooking by himself, without the help of Linguini.
The one little problem I have with this movie is that there aren’t a lot of very sympathetic characters. Remy was obviously well developed, but I didn’t really care about anyone else. Linguini is not exactly likable, his girlfriend was not very well developed, not she was funny in a couple of scenes. The other rats were actually annoying at times.
But apart from that, I really enjoyed this movie.
