28 Weeks Later

28 Weeks Later (2007): Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes to plan.

I wasn’t a big fan of 28 Days Later, but I liked it enough to want to check this sequel out.

This story presents us with plenty of moral and character moments. Donald’s guilt for not helping his own wife, Doyle’s decision not to kill innocent people. All very important moral dilemmas that were explored in this movie.

But they’re not the complete focus of the movie, there is still plenty of action and tension, as well as gore (which I didn’t enjoy much). However unlike other horror movies that are just a series of gore scenes, this movie really works even without the gore.

The way they bring back the virus is perfectly plausible, as is the way the American military deals with it. There are obvious political parallels to the real world.

Seeing the empty streets of London made an impact on me, as well the familiar houses and windows.

The characters were probably the weak point to me. Most of them die before I could start to care about them, and I felt I had to care about the two main characters just because they were kids. They weren’t very well developed, and we don’t even see what happens to them at the very end. That ending only served the purpose to setup another sequel.

One other things that bothered me was that the kids kept bumping into their infected father. I don’t think he would follow them, and I don’t think he would be able to anyway.

In the end this was an enjoyable high tension movie that kept me on the edge of my seat.
