The Nanny Diaries (2007): A college graduate goes to work as a nanny for a rich New York family. Ensconced in their home, she has to juggle their dysfunction, a new romance, and the spoiled brat in her charge.
This is a mix of comedy, drama and romance. Sometimes the balance between these felt a bit off. The main focus is on Annie, who is trying to find out who she is and what she wants to do with her life.
During this search she enters Grayer’s life completely changing their life too. I can feel what they were going for here, though I think it was too much of a stereotype. The rich family is unhappy.
I also understand that Annie gets attached to the kid and feels like she should not leave. But she is taking way too much from his parents, she’s like a slave, and no matter how much you like a child, I don’t think anyone would have stayed.
There are also some parts of the plot that really annoyed me. If she cared so much about the kid, why didn’t she say goodbye to him when she was fired? She saw him come back, but she just entered the car.
Also, I don’t believe that the mother would show the tape from the Nanny cam without reviewing it herself first. That’s just ridiculous.
I can relate with parenting and caring for a kid, but I don’t think this movie was well executed or plotted. There were a few laughs, but they were more amusing than anything else.
